The Electric Motorcycle

Nowadays everyone is obsessed with electric vehicles and going green. Electric cars have become a reality so naturally other electric vehicles will come about or be revived. So was the electric motorcycle an offspring of the electric car or was it here first?

The actual production of electric bikes started in 1936 with formation of Socovel, an electric motorcycle company started by the Limelette brothers. The design of electric motorcycles has changed and evolved with the times and the technology has become more complex. When you look at an electric bike and a gas powered bike side by side you can see the differences and you can see just how far gas powered motorcycles and electric motorcycles have truly come.

One bike that I want to take a look at is the Harley-Davidson LiveWire (surprise surprise it’s a Harley). The 2020 Harley-Davidson LiveWire was released in 2019. The bike was later put on hold due to a charging issue, the issue has been solved and production has been resumed. This bike kind of rocked the Harley world. I would have never imagined that Harley-Davidson would develop an electric bike. The LiveWires top speed is about 95 MPH and it holds a charge for about 146 miles and it only takes one hour to fully charge the bike. Isn’t that insane? The sleek style of the Harley-Davidson LiveWire makes it that much more appealing. The color options are limited to orange, black, and green. Another really cool electric bike is the Zero SR. The Zero SR is produced by a company called Zero Motorcycles. I have personally never heard of Zero Motorcycles before writing this blog post but from the looks of it they are a “next gen” company, they state in their about section that they are the “next step” in motorcycle evolution, since they’re dealing with electric bikes this does have truth to it. The Zero SR has a top speed of a 102 MPH and gets up to 179 – 223 miles per charge. It takes about two hours to fully charge and it isn’t that heavy.
